Karlsruhe: Welcome
The twin city Nottingham
St. Peter's Gate
History of the city partnership
Following the positive experiences with the French twin city of Nancy, Karlsruhe decided to add an English twin city of similar structure and size. The city Nottingham was chosen and during a City Council session on July 22 in 1969 in Karlsruhe the Lord Mayors of Karlsruhe and Nottingham sealed the city partnership with a handshake.
About Nottingham
Nottingham is referred to as the "queen of the East Midlands", not only because the English kings held court in this city when they went hunting in the vast surrounding woods. The city on the River Trent with its beautiful old parks located at the centre of the county of Nottinghamshire, 200 kilometres to the North of London, has managed to retain its special character with a mix of tranquillity and the lively bustle of business activities. Tourists enjoy visiting because they find everything the heart craves here: Traces of history at every step, an enchanting landscape offering various places worthy of excursions - but also the convivial lifestyle of a modern metropolis.
