History of the city partnership

Existing long-standing and friendly contacts played a decisive role in the decision of Karlsruhe's City Council to establish a city friendship with the Russian twin city of Krasnodar in 1992. Contacts in the areas of culture and sports, youth exchanges and a lively interchange between the city administrations were reasons to turn the friendship into an official city partnership.

About Krasnodar

Krasnodar, the capital of the Kuban region is the southernmost district capital in Russia. Today, the city located on the Kuban River flowing into the Sea of Azov has more than 765,000 inhabitants; including Russians but also Ukrainians, Armenians, Greeks and Germans. An extremely fertile agricultural region which benefits in equal measure from arable soils and a mild climate spreads out around the metropolis located between the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea. The region around Krasnodar thus is also able to contain the world's northernmost tea growing region. Grain, sunflowers, fruit and rice are exported to 69 countries.
